저자는 한국에서 외교부 공무원을 거쳐 현재는 23년째 변리사로 일하고 있다.또한, 작가, 종교없는 명상가, 강연자로도 활동하고 있다. 이 책의 메시지는 저자가 직업상 수많은 발명을 다루며 얻은 깊은 통찰과 오랜 기간 각종 종교 이론과 철학을 토대로 사유한 결과물이라고 할 수 있다.
